PROS

  1. Bulletproof Engine: Uses the legendary 499cc parallel-twin from the original CB500—renowned for its ability to survive 150,000+ km as a courier bike.
  2. Low-End Torque: Tuned for a friendly, linear power delivery that makes it much easier to ride in traffic than the rev-hungry 600cc fours.
  3. Superb Beginner Ergonomics: Features a naturally low seat height (770mm) and neutral, upright bars that inspire confidence for shorter riders.
  4. Cost-Efficient: Extremely cheap to insure, maintain, and run; it’s a "back-to-basics" machine that focuses on utility over flashiness.

CONS

  1. Carbureted: Lacks the refinement of fuel injection; requires a choke for cold starts and is sensitive to old fuel if left sitting for weeks.
  2. Functional but Bland: The styling is very conservative, and the exhaust note of the 180° parallel-twin is often described as "utilitarian."
  3. Budget Suspension: The rear shock and front forks are basic; the bike can feel slightly unsettled if ridden aggressively through bumpy corners.
  4. Heavy for a 500: At 206kg (wet), it weighs nearly as much as the CBF600, which can make its 56hp feel a bit modest during highway overtakes.
