PROS

  1. Instant Classic: The very first year of the DOHC "Euro-style" Fireblade predecessor; highly prized by collectors for its purity.
  2. Superior Power: Its 901cc engine delivered 95 hp, comfortably beating the period’s 1000cc rivals like the Kawasaki Z1000.
  3. ComStar Tech: Debuted the silver five-spoke ComStar wheels, which were revolutionary for allowing tubeless tires on a production bike.
  4. Endurance DNA: Named after the 24-hour French race, it was built to sustain high speeds for hours, making it a very capable "sleeper" tourer.

CONS

  1. Early-Production Quirks: First-batch units (1978/early '79) often had weaker cam chain tensioners and single-piston brake calipers.
  2. Flexible Forks: The original 35mm front forks are quite thin for a bike this heavy, leading to "fork flex" during aggressive cornering.
  3. Heavy Handling: With a 19-inch front wheel and a weight of 254 kg, it requires physical effort to tip into tight hairpins.
  4. Maintenance Intensive: The 16-valve DOHC head is masterpiece but complex; shim-under-bucket valve adjustments are time-consuming.
