PROS
- Bulletproof Parallel-Twin: Inherits the virtually indestructible 499cc engine known to survive over 150,000 km in courier service.
- Beginner Friendly: Very linear power delivery and a low center of gravity make it exceptionally easy to handle for new riders.
- Modern Chassis: Unlike the older CB500, this uses a "backbone" frame similar to the Hornet, providing significantly better road holding and stability.
- Low Seat Height: At 770mm, it is one of the most accessible "big bikes" for shorter riders.
CONS
- Carbureted: Final years of carburetors; can be finicky on cold starts and sensitive to ethanol in modern fuels if left sitting.
-
- Basic Suspension: The 41mm forks are non-adjustable and tuned for comfort, leading to significant "dive" under heavy braking.
-
- Heavier than Predecessor: At 206kg (wet), it gained some weight over the original CB500 due to the beefier frame and ABS components.
-
- Functional Styling: Often viewed as a "blank canvas" or utility bike; lacks the aggressive visual appeal of sportier rivals.
